A Journey in Crop Sensors
\nThe journey began with backpacking t rips in Alaska with a compact zoom camera containing a tiny sensor a fifth the size of full frame. Portable and always available for surprise wildli fe encounters.
\nTopics: Crop sensors\, crop factors\, and field of view. Advantages of small sensors in camera size and magnification explain ed along with the disadvantages in pixel count and image noise. Illustrati ng some remedies via de-noise software\, resizing software\, and image st acking (night sky photography).
\nA meeting for members who are going to enter the N4C Portfolio competi tion to have their submission viewed in a salon style format. Portfolios a re due on November 3rd
\nThe opportunity to photograph architecture is available everywhere\, f rom modern buildings to historic structures. We’ll not only look at the wh ole building but components that make up a structure. This presentation wi ll focus on types of architecture to photograph\, equipment to use\, times of day for shoots\, in-camera usage\, and post production methods. The go al is to get you out photographing architecture with increased confidence and knowledge.

\nK eith French will delve into Light Metering and the role it plays in your p hotography\; how to use and interpret the information your camera gives yo u\, and how to turn that info into a usable exposure.
\nKeith French has been a full time professional photographer since 2001 with an extensi ve background in several types of photography dating back to 1984 when he first started a color darkroom in his home. His years as an owner of a fu ll service retail camera store\, Photo/Video studio\, and commercial color and B & W photo lab in the Chicago suburbs\, gave him a unique look into the full circle of the photographic industry. Buying and selling equipment and accessories\, hosting and teaching photography classes and workshops\ , shooting and running a commercial photo lab. The majority of the last 1 2 years Keith has concentrated his work on B2B commercial photography\, he lping companies to visually communicate their product and services in thei r market through outstanding images. These past experiences combined with his time as a United States Marine Corps Aviator and the travels that were associated there\, Keith has a well-rounded repertoire of photographic ex perience on 4 continents and 3 oceans.
\nWith these photographic exp eriences and his enjoyment of teaching and being around people passionate for the art and science of photography\, Keith brings a unique combination of fun and knowledge to his workshops and classes. His previous teaching opportunities includes novices to advanced amateurs through his camera sto re\, with the Chicago Area Photography School (CAPS) and as a presenter an d photo walk host with Out of Chicago. Also in keeping with his passion fo r teaching Keith hosts or co-hosts\, with partner Tony Reynes\, numerous workshops both locally in the Chicago area as well as several destination workshops in North Dakota\, Colorado\, Oregon\, Wisconsin\, and Southern Illinois.

This topic is timely as we prep for our exhibit “Photo Magic” at t he Sebastopol Center for the Arts – Oct 22 thru Nov 27.
\nPD Photogr apher John Burgess has given us permission to share a Zoo m presentation on food photography that he did for his SRJC class. This is an entertaining video on his jump into teaching via Zoom for part of the year in 2020.
\nMike Funk will follow up with a sli de show and tell of his experience with photographing food and beverages.< /p>\n

On October 27th\, the last part (15-30 min.) of this evening’s Program (after Herb) is for members wh o are entering the N4C Portfolio competition where their submission will b e viewed. With feedback from this review\, the Competition Chair (CC) will assist members with any changes needed to conform to N4C’s Portfolio Competition Rul es.
\nEntries must be finalized by October 31st to insure all en tries are uploaded by the CC to N4C by the deadline.
\nWhether you see Adobe’s new AI tools in PS 2024 are for
good or evil\, the new Generative AI fill and Expand tools are rather fun
\, useful and can provide inspiration. Lots of ideas will be explored int
eractively with members during the program.
Nancy will demo the tools on her and your images\, th
e layers she added in PS 2024\, and some live work on images.
Consider looking through your image
s for any where an essential element was cut off\, like the tail of a bird
or the feet in that interesting street shot you grabbed\, or you’d like
an element added for a more interesting image.
By October 19th\, send a jpeg to Nancy Goodenough and she’ll see how ma ny she can work through while interacting with those present\, trying diff erent ideas using the Generative AI tools.
