Field Trip: Armstrong Woods
Mar 8 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Armstrong Woods

https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=450

The date is 10 am on 3/8. The area is recovering from the fires and we should see new growth after all the rain. This is truly a great area to go wide or macro. There are vistas to cover as well as small critters and flowers under foot. After shooting, we can all go up to Guerneville for lunch at El Barrio at 1pm.

We are supposed to meet on March 8 at 10 for Armstrong Woods in the parking lot. The weather is going to be iffy all week and we are going to ignore it. If you want to meet me at the parking lot and it is raining lightly, I will still go out and shoot in the elements. If you decide that some of us are idiots, just wait and join us for lunch at 1 at Stumptown in Guerneville.

Equipment suggestion: Take an umbrella and tape it on to the top of a tall garden stake. Then you have a dry area for you and your camera. You can also clamp it on to your tripod if you want.
Also, it may be cold and damp there. Be sure to keep your camera bag outside before you leave and in the car trunk when you drive to the site. This will prevent lens fogging.
Also, please let me know if you will make lunch so I can make reservations.

Zoom Photo Competition with Lisa Rigge
Mar 9 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Categories: Pictorial, Nature, Travel, Monochrome, and Critique/Feedback

The Zoom portal opens at 6 pm and the meeting starts at 6:30.

About Lisa Rigge…

Biography:
Lisa began taking photography courses at the MIT Photography Lab in Cambridge, MA. Once in CA, she continued her photography studies at Chabot College, UC Extension Santa Cruz, and PhotoCentral. Her photographs have appeared in LensWork, The Sun Magazine, and Burningword Literary Magazine.

Philosophy:
Lisa’s background is in Adult Education. She’s taught photography, along with many other subjects, to adults for decades. Thus, she approaches judging as a teacher, believing that first and foremost, everyone needs to be encouraged in their photographic journey. She tries to use a different approach when judging the beginners’ and the more advanced members’ work. She feels beginners absolutely need to know what they are doing well, and the more advanced photographers may need to find ways to further refine their work. It’s important to her that she be able to
recognize what the makers were trying to capture when they clicked the shutter button in order to make the best judgements on their photographs. Lisa also believes that photographers view their photographs as a means of selfexpression first, and any need to impress the judge, second. The photographers always have the last word on their work. Hers is just one of many opinions.

Field Trip: Goat Rock at low tide
Mar 25 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Mar 25 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Goat Rock at low tide

https://www.sonomacounty.com/outdoor-activities/goat-rock-beach

This trip is scheduled for 9 am on 3/25. Low tide is about 10. Low tide gives us a great deal more real estate to shoot to the north and south. Targets of opportunity include tidal pools, jagged rocks, driftwood and pinnipeds. After shooting, we can meet at 1 at a restaurant called Baked on the River in Guerneville for lunch. If the weather is really cruddy, I will notify you and the trip may be postponed until the next day.
