Critique Night
Mar 31 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

There is a critique night this Sunday in preparation for the next competition.  The critique night for it will be from 4 – 6 pm.

These critique sessions really work, particularly for new members and members who have just moved to a higher competition level. More than 18 members have used this service last year. Most of the time, a little tweak really can raise the impact of an image. Usually, the alteration is as simple as adjusting a crop or editing a title.

As a reminder, here is how the process works:

        – Please email me that you would be interested in getting up to 3 of your images reviewed in a session. Also let me know what 10-minute time slot you would like between 4-6 pm

        – I will respond relatively promptly and see if we can settle on a mutually convenient time

        – No later than 1 day before the appointed evening, send me your images in the same format as you upload to competition

        – Also include your phone number and the image titles

– On the appointed time slot, I will call the number you gave me and we can discuss your images

– If I am running more than 5 minutes late, I will text or email you

Zoom Photo Competition with Judge Jane Postiglione
Apr 11 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Zoom Link: https://santarosaphotographicsociety.org/zoom-meetings/photo-competition-with-judge-jane-postiglione/

The Zoom portal opens at 6 pm and the meeting starts at 6:30.

About Jane Postiglione: I have been shooting images since I received my first Brownie camera at age 11. As an undergraduate student in Architectural Interior Design at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, I shot with a medium format twin lens reflex camera, a handheld light meter, and learned to develop film and make black and white prints.

After receiving my BFA from Pratt, I practiced design in New York City, travelled several times to Europe, and then moved west to study Instructional Technology and multimedia in graduate school at SF State. This led to work in writing, shooting and editing instructional training videos for the Army and the Navy, as well as creating and delivering technology and management programs for the corporate world. I started using digital equipment in 2004. I started participating in the Contra Costa Camera Club in 2003 and later N4C and have held various board positions in these organizations including President, Secretary, and FotoClave Co-Director. I was also a past Board Member of the Alamo Danville Artist Society, and Interim Director and Curator at Sun Gallery in Hayward, CA.

I have been accepted into juried shows throughout the SF Bay Area and exhibited and sold my prints in local galleries and establishments. In addition to my exhibits, my images have been selected and published in the Photographer’s Forum, the Best of Photography 2014 and 2017, and the IPA International Photography Awards 2015 and2020. In addition to my fine art photography, I shoot weddings and events with my photographer/musician husband, and I judge photography competitions and exhibits.

Philosophy. As a Photographer, I believe it is important to consciously select visually interesting  subject matter with appealing compositional elements, shoot at the best time of day to portray the image, use the best technical parameters to capture the image and tell the subject’s story – capture the subject’s essence – all while demonstrating a personal visual style or signature that sets your work apart from the work of others.

I acknowledge that evaluating and judging photography and art is subjective, yet I believe there are certain universal aesthetic principles and guidelines, which apply to all artwork.

Butter and Eggs Parade
Apr 20 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

SRPS April Field Trip

Butter and Eggs Parade, Petaluma, April 20th

This is a very fun event that is as much about a costume as anything else. It seems like everyone is in a good mood and would love to have you take their picture. Remember to dress in layers because the day can start cold and be pretty darn hot and sunny by noon. Since this is a really crowded event, there will be no meetup. It is hard to find people and places to eat tend to offer very slow service. To save on parking issues, try and go with a friend.
