Biography:
I have been shooting images since I received my first Brownie camera at age 11. As an undergraduate student in Architectural Interior Design at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, I shot with a medium format twin lens reflex camera, a handheld light meter, and learned to develop film and make black and white prints. After receiving my BFA from Pratt, I practiced design in New York City, travelled several times to Europe, and then moved west to study Instructional Technology and multimedia in graduate school at SF State. This led to work in writing, shooting and editing instructional training videos for the Army and the Navy, as well as creating and delivering technology and management programs for the corporate world. I started using digital equipment in 2004. I started participating in the Contra Costa Camera Club in 2003 and later N4C and have held various board positions in these organizations including President, Secretary, and FotoClave Co-Director. I was also a past Board Member of the Alamo Danville Artist Society, and Interim Director and Curator at Sun Gallery in Hayward, CA. I have been accepted into juried shows throughout the SF Bay Area and exhibited and sold my prints in local galleries and establishments. In addition to my exhibits, my images have been selected and published in the Photographer’s Forum, the Best
of Photography 2014 and 2017, and the IPA International Photography Awards 2015, & 2020. In addition to my fine art photography, I shoot weddings and events with my photographer/musician husband, and I judge photography competitions and exhibits.

Philosophy:
As a Photographer, I believe it is important to consciously select visually interesting subject matter with appealing compositional elements, shoot at the best time of day to portray the image, use the best technical parameters to capture the image and tell the subject’s story – capture the subject’s essence – all while demonstrating a personal visual style or signature that sets your work apart from the work of others. I acknowledge that evaluating and judging photography and art is subjective, yet I believe there are certain universal aesthetic principles and guidelines, which apply to all artwork.

SRPS Zoom Presentation Evening: “Mixing Pixels” with Len Cook
May 25 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Zoom portal opens at 6 pm and the meeting starts at 6:30.

Double exposures were once considered unhappy accidents – two pictures ruined. Now, however, blending two images can be considered part of the fun in photography. And what about camera shake that produced blurry photos? That, too, has found a home in the photo toolbox. Multiple exposure photography and ICM or “intentional camera movement” photography have many important technical and creative elements in common. Let’s talk about them.
