Fireworks! @ Anywhere there are 4th of July Fireworks
Jul 4 @ 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm

Leaderless: Fireworks! Anywhere there is a 4th of July celebration that includes fireworks, any date between whenever they start locally and when they end. The only basic restrictions are that the event has to have been held in the month of July, this year, with fireworks. Fireworks are kind of the point. It would be nice, too, if members could team up, but that’s not required. There are many local events; here’s a link to a whole slew of them! https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=MxAVXfuzN8GAtgXE15qwDg&q=Sonoma+County+4th+of+July+events&oq=Sonoma+County+4th+of+July+events&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0i131j0j0i22i30.170051431.170057754..170057908…0.0..0.257.4042.0j32j1……0….1..gws-wiz…..0..35i39j38.UdnPTeK6xBg&ibp=htl;events&rciv=evn&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwie1_Gz8Y_jAhUOa80KHfwmCQcQ5rwDKAF6BAgJEDs#fpstate=tldetail&htidocid=rhcz9FQPl-Mp1qA9JpA8-A%3D%3D&htivrt=events

Ellis Creek Bird Walk @ Ellis Creek
Aug 10 @ 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Next to Schollenberger Park in Petaluma; right on Cader Lane off Hwy 116 South, cross North McDowell directly into the parking lot. Meet at 4:30, shoot until 7:00, dinner to follow at restaurant TBD. Carpooling strongly encouraged, as the parking lot is extremely small. A Google search of “birds at Ellis Creek in August” yielded a ton of information about which birds were there last year at this time.  Here’s a link:

Birds of the Month, AUG 2018

Please RSVP to Trisha and Joel if you plan to join us.  Please meet at the Park and Ride lot next to Johnny’s Java at 4:00 pm to form carpools. We’ll organize dinner somewhere nearby after the field trip.

2019 Wounded Veterans Polo Benefit @ Wine Country Polo Club (Oakmont)
Aug 18 @ 11:00 am – 6:00 pm

What to expect.

11:00. We’ll meet in the parking lot next to the field. You can park there free of charge and there is no admission charge.

11:30. Opening Ceremonies – showing of the colors. Military procession led by a piper.  This is also a good time to photograph polo ponies getting ready – tail braiding and so forth in the parking area to the north of the field, behind the restaurant.

12:00 First polo match. A typical match consists of four periods of 7 minutes, each followed by a short break for the players to change ponies. The action is fast-paced. Pick your spot and use a long lens. No matter where you are, they will soon gallop within range. Above all, stay off the field during the matches.

There will be a total of two polo matches with an intermission performance by the California Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Team. At some point guests will wander out on the field, wine glass in hand, and “stomp divots.” At the end, some award ceremonies.

Permission to photograph. Bill enjoys free and friendly access to the Wine Country Polo Club activities by providing a website address where members of the polo club  can download small format images and, if they wish, order prints, framed or otherwise. If you have a similar website Bill can pass on the details to the organizers. The more the merrier. If you do not, no problem. Enjoy the day and feel free to mingle among the guests and take lots of pictures.

Finally, please let Bill know as soon as possible if you plan to attend so he can keep the organizers informed.

What to bring: camera gear, water, and a few snacks.  We’ll be in the open sun, so bring sunscreen.
