Mike will be presenting his Masters Program on Wildlife/Bird Photography.
Topics include: Foundations + Fundamentals; Equipment; Field craft; Processing images + Software used; Ethics/Etiquette; Resources, with examples of images to show topics covered.
The next competition is on July 8th. The critique night for it will be …….Sunday June 27th, from 4 – 6 pm. The categories will be Pictorial, Journalism, Travel and Monochrome.
These critique sessions really work. Most of the time, a little tweak really can raise the impact of an image. Once and a while, we get rid of a loveable clunker that only the maker is attached to.
As a reminder, here is how the process works:
– Please email me that you would be interested in getting up to 3 of your images reviewed. Also let me know what 15 minute time slot you would like between 4-6 pm
– I will respond within a few hours and see if we can settle on a convenient time
– No later than 2 days before the appointed evening, send me your images in the same format as you upload to competition
– Also include your phone number and the image titles
– On the appointed time slot, I will call the number you gave me and we can discuss your images
– If I am running more than 5 minutes late, I will text or email you

SRPS July 2021 Outing
San Francisco by Ferry
Where Sonoma Coast
Dates Visit: Saturday, July 10th
Upload: Tuesday, July 13th
Zoom: Friday, July 16th at 5 pm
Description The Larkspur ferry will allow participants to leave around 9:20 and arrive at the Ferry Building by about 10. For those who are challenged by seasickness and decide to drive, there are many parking garages nearby to the Ferry Building.
Upon arrival, it is suggested that everyone meet in front of the main Golden Gate Transit Building in the rear of the ferry building. From there, we can break into small groups and go off to explore the area.
It is truly a target rich environment:
– meander the ferry building shooting the wares
– sit across the street from the building and capture some of the local fauna moving by
– walk the street and absorb the architecture
– try shooting shadows or movement
– or, when you step to the ferry rail, and shoot the city from the water
– and on and on
Around 1:00, we will all meet for lunch. Depending on the number, we can either go the fast-food route or sit down in a casual restaurant. The return ferries run sporadically in the afternoon so plan your own trip home; you may want to stay longer.
A Journey in Crop Sensors
The journey began with backpacking trips in Alaska with a compact zoom camera containing a tiny sensor a fifth the size of full frame. Portable and always available for surprise wildlife encounters.
Topics: Crop sensors, crop factors, and field of view. Advantages of small sensors in camera size and magnification explained along with the disadvantages in pixel count and image noise. Illustrating some remedies via de-noise software, resizing software, and image stacking (night sky photography).
The next competition is on August 12th. The critique night for it will be …….Sunday August 1, from 4 – 6 pm. The categories will be Pictorial, Nature, Travel and Creative

Where Neve Bros
Dates Visit: August 6
Upload: August 11
Zoom: August 13
Description Nevehttp://www.nevebros.com/ Brothers is probably a place you have never visited. It is a commercial cut flower grower. You have probably bought some of their products at local retail outlets. Their footprint in the local area is larger (and less visible) than you might expect. They have two football-sized facilities; one just west of Petaluma and one is on Roblar Road, on the way to the shore. Read about the history of the family and their business that you have probably never heard of, right here.
Meet at 3 pm at 2645 Bodega Avenue, Petaluma (see attached map). There is a small sign at the entrance and go all the way down the driveway to the end where there is a parking lot. We will assemble there for 10 minutes and then go to the rose greenhouse. If you plan to go, be on time. If you are late, call me and I will come out and get you. This is a business area where they don’t want persons just wandering around.
We will go into the rose greenhouse that is north of the parking lot. It is a big area with lots of narrow rows of growing rose plants. This is a good place for jeans and tighter fitting tops. The footing can be slippery with water and moss on some pathways. Everyone has to exit by 5 pm.
Gear to bring. Best lenses will be walk-around ~25-105 mm or a macro. There is overhead lighting. Flash is also fine but use it judiciously; don’t fry your neighbor’s shot. A tripod is useful but a monopod is even better for tight rows.
This is a dumb statement, but treat their garden like it was yours; try not to break any stems.
After the outing, please sort through your images that you will post for the Zoom meeting on the 13th; please have them uploaded by the 11th. With your permission, I will forward a set of them to the Neve family for their use. Please do not watermark your images.
