Zoom Photo Competition with Stephen Hinchey
Jul 13 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Zoom portal opens at 6 pm and the meeting will start at 6:30.

Categories: Pictorial, Nature, Travel, and Critique/Feedback

Biography:
Stephen Hinchey began his photographic journey in the 1960’s when his brother built a darkroom in the basement of their house. He learned how to develop and expose black & white film. His focus at that time was on Architectural images, later adding both color
prints and color slides to his repertoire. In the early 2000’s, he purchased his first digital camera and pivoted to Nature photography. He took classes at the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite and interspersed
trips to the Sierras. To address his fears of photographing people, he signed up for sessions with models. This led him to shift more to studio work where he can control and experiment with lighting.

Philosophy:
It is important to understand the message the creator of an image is trying to express. The title is a guide in this understanding, reinforcing what you have seen or guiding you to the true message. When talking about the impact and interest in an image Stephen
strives to be judicious in suggesting alterations. Often it is better to explain what the creator did to make the image work.

Zoom Photo Competition with Doug Stinson
Aug 10 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Zoom portal opens at 6 pm and the meeting starts at 6:30

Categories: Pictorial, Journalism, Creative, Monochrome, and Critique/Feedback

Biography:
Doug has been pursuing photography seriously for over forty years. He started as a contributor to his local newspaper when he was in high school. He is a member of the Photographic Society of America, the Fremont Photographic Society, and the Fremont
Art Association. He studied photography at the San Francisco Art Institute and is a member of the Board of Directors of PhotoAlliance. His photography has won awards at the local and regional levels and has been exhibited internationally. He created the website BayAreaPhotoScene.com, the definitive, searchable database of photography related events in the Bay Area. In addition to his interest in the aesthetic aspects of photography he brings a knowledge of the technical aspects of digital photography and image analysis from his work with Eastman Kodak and with Hewlett Packard.

Philosophy:
In stating his philosophy, Doug notes, “Humans have been creating images, for no other purpose than to share experiences, for at least 30,000 years. It may be the one thing that truly distinguishes us as a species. The only thing that matters in a photograph is the impact it has on the viewer. If your image has as great an impact as a Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc cave drawing, you have a great photograph. If a judge can help you achieve that by assisting you in developing your technique and vision, he or she has done their job.”
